ARE YOU A PROPHET RECEIVING DIVINE MESSAGES?

Updated: Jan 13, 2023

Prophets with the Seer gift can see on people and through people. They easily see the supernatural in visions and dreams but mostly in the natural! They see, Angels, demons, beings, creatures, other plains, and even God! They see the strongholds or troubles on a person, they even see the sin. This gift is given usually before birth and part of their DNA. People commonly think of when they hear the term prophecy, is about foretelling or predicting future events through divine revelation, but this is not only the only common task. Prophets are the mouthpiece of God, speaking on God’s behalf.

The book of Hosea reveals to us the major functions of the prophets ministry which is preservation, deliverance from enemies and bringing messages from God! A prophet talks to God and relays the message back to the person who can't see or hear the Voice of God. In the book of Jeremiah Prophet Jeremiah [Jeremiah 1:10] was told to:

  1. Pull down - spirits and strongholds

  2. Destroy - pride, sin, and evil

  3. Throw down - idol worship

  4. Build - construct, establish or cause to increase

  5. Plant - establish or institute

A prophet admonishes, warns, directs, encourages, intercedes, teaches and counsels, bringing the word of God to people and calls people to respond. A prophet is part of the five-fold ministry and much needed in Church leadership -- but usually left out!

Gad, the Seer, was king David's personal Prophet and Seer, prior to him becoming king. He would advise him on the things of God [2 Samuel 24:11]. Seers were sought by kings and others in authority when they needed direction from God [2 Kings 17:13, 1 Chronicles 25:5]. Before the Holy Spirit was poured out on believers at Pentecost [Acts 2], God communicated to His people through His chosen prophets, and in the Old Testament, those prophets are sometimes called Seers [1 Samuel 9:9].

The entire nation of Israel was delivered from Pharaoh's slavery and stubbornness, the enemy of the children of God, through Moses's intercession and conversations with God, he preserved them from death [Numbers 14]. Preserve means to keep from harm or danger or evil, to protect and to save, and that's what Moses did when Pharaoh finally 'let his people go.'

Seer's and Prophets are seen all throughout the Old Testament, although rarely mentioned by name, Gad, the Seer, may have played a crucial role in David’s success as king, as his initial advice while David was on the run from Saul, which not only kept David safe, but it allowed David to build a reputation as a mighty warrior, making him popular with the people [1 Chronicles 12:1-22]. In this example, we learn that leaders need to surround themselves with wise 'prophetic' people who understand God’s Word and can communicate God’s message accurately [Isaiah 6:8-9, 1 Corinthians 14:1-4]. For every great leader, there are nameless supporters who advise, rebuke, encourage, and warn, using their 'spiritual gifts' for the betterment of another. Though his name is rarely mentioned, Gad’s influence is seen throughout the life of King David. When David excelled, Gad’s counsel was right there, and when he failed, Gad’s rebuke and advice quickly followed. Gad also worked in harmony with God’s other influential prophet, Nathan, to keep David’s heart and life pleasing to God and worthy of the throne [2 Chronicles 29:29, 2 Samuel 12:1]. Because Gad was faithful to his calling, David had the godly insights he needed to fulfill the role God called him to play - the King!

It is vital that every church develops, encourages and uplifts its prophets, not silence them and put them in the back row for quiet hidden and unseen sessions, away from the children of God. The prophets can preserve, intercede, bring discernment, and teaching, through their prophetic gift. This helps guard the church against error, witchcraft, manipulation, strongholds, carnality, perversion, legalism, deception and sin. So many times in Churches I have seen large anaconda style snakes running around the Church destroying people, and even witches, sitting close to the front row releasing spells, yet Pastors refuse to listen because of their pride and their position they hold in the Church, or simply because they sit in the front row! The Church then suffers many attacks because they don't listen to the voice of the Prophet!

Prophecy is God's vehicle of bringing discipline, hope, life, structure, order, purpose, alignment, destiny, focus, determination, and divine guidance - Hakeem Collins

Jesus clearly had the Prophetic and Seer gift, as we see He fulfilled the role of a prophet, as a spokesman for God. Jesus predicted the future when He told His disciples “that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life” [Mathew 16:21]. Jesus also predicted shortly after His ascension, the disciples would receive power at the coming of the Holy Spirit [Acts 1:8]. In Acts 2 we see these very records, prophecies, being fulfilled when the apostles received the Holy Spirit and spoke in other languages, tongues. Thus, Jesus clearly fulfilled the role of a prophet, as He spoke these predictions. But He was more than a Prophet, He was the son of God who came to save mankind! For God so loved the world, as to give his only begotten Son; that whosoever believes in him, may not perish, but may have life everlasting [John 3:16]

Here are some scriptures to strengthen your prophetic flow:

  1. Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God [Deuteronomy 28]

  2. Now Moses called all Israel and said to them: “You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt, to Pharaoh and to all his servants and to all his land—the great trials which your eyes have seen, the signs, and those great wonders. Yet the Lord has not given you a heart to perceive and eyes to see and ears to hear, to this very day. And I have led you forty years in the wilderness. Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn out on your feet [Deuteronomy 29:2]

  3. The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law. [Deuteronomy 29:29]

  4. When a man went to inquire of God, he spoke thus: “Come, let us go to the seer”; for he who is now called a prophet was formerly called a seer [1 Samuel 9:9]

  5. Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you [1 Samuel 10:6-7]

  6. “Hear me, O Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.” [2 Chronicles 20:20]

Another function of the prophets was healing and miracles as we see throughout the Bible. Moses performed many miracles, including parting the Red Sea [Exodus 14:21-22]. Elijah called down fire from heaven to burn up a sacrifice [1 Kings 18:36-38]. Elisha performed a miracle when he made the ax head float in the water [2 Kings 6:6], and all four books of the Gospels record Jesus performing many miracles and healing [Matthew 8:14-15, Mark 1:40-45, Luke 8:42-48 and John 6:16-21].

When prophecy shall fail, the people shall be scattered ... Proverbs 29:18 (WYC)
