HOW TO GROW SPIRITUALLY?
Updated: Aug 26, 2022
What is spiritual growth? Is there such a thing?
The Bible tells us there is, and that we shouldn't stay drinking on milk, only knowing the simple things about the life and death of Jesus, and the supernatural, but growing in the knowledge of Jesus, the Kingdom of God, how to operate in it, how to grow and understand the Word of God.
... so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. [2 Peter 1:3-8]
Most people experience the supernatural at some point in their life. They may have encountered a dark spirit or presence in their house, chased by monsters in dreams, have a near death experience and head towards the light, saw an angel, or heard the voice of God but don't know who it is. The saddest thing is they only stay knowing those things, and yet there is so much more to discover about the supernatural, its kingdoms, its law's, how it operates in the Earth realm, and how it wants to engage with us on a daily basis, because this is all part of our spiritual growth.
In 2 Corinthians 3:18, we are told that we should be "transformed from glory to glory," and "increasing in the character and nature of God." Part of our human lives is to be growing in our spiritual behavior and connection with God into who He is, and who we are supposed to be growing into.
In ancient times priests, prophets, seers, witches, and mediums, all dedicated their lives to engaging with the supernatural. Their whole entire purpose was to spend time with God, speak to God, engage with Him and the Angels, or other spirit beings, from outside the spiritual veils of Earth, encountering all types of spirits, and beings, from the other side. Priest were in charge of communicating with spirits and gathering information from the other side, to have the power to influence the mind, body, or possession, and people, but also to cause disease, sickness in animals, bad luck, sudden death, impotence, and other such misfortunes, or to heal their nation and people. [Exodus 8:7]
Yet, most people today can't even turn up to church on Sundays, or take the Bible out to read one passage, perhaps even thinking about their daily chores whilst listening to a sermon and not engaging with the supernatural. Yet, the Bible is the key to unlocking all things supernatural that pertain to this world and our life. How to live effectively and properly, how to heal our hearts, soul and flesh, how to get along with one another, how to treat one other, how to live successfully or in folly, but most importantly - how to hear the voice of God, see Him, and interact with Him!
Learning how to grow spiritually is a life-long journey, which only grows when you read, apply and engage with God's Word, in your everyday life. I've learnt this over time, as I grew in faith and my knowledge of God and His Kingdom grew in understanding and knowledge, the more I got to see in the supernatural and engage with it at a higher level. Did you know there are so many places in the heavens, and courtrooms is one of them? This is where I go frequently, not to be a spectator, but to be a partaker and engage in it, bring my cases to a hearing, and receive immediate responses for my everyday life problems, and the lives of my friends and family. My first vision was when I was three, and my first spiritual encounter with a demonic spirit was when I was seven, and these things did not stop, they only increased. The first time I heard God's voice was when I was seventeen, and that same year I had my first out of body experience and entered the Heavens. The supernatural is always moving around us, causing us to make decisions, positive and negative, but also trying to gain access into this world. It is when we engage with it, learn about it and understand it, we gain more knowledge and spiritual growth.
In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, it teaches us that, "all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." In order for spiritual growth to occur, we must be taught, rebuked, corrected, and trained by God's Word, we can't just live on the outskirts of the spiritual hoping and wondering, we must engage to learn more, then we will be thoroughly equipped in this life, for every good work, and be lead by God's spirit, the Holy Spirit, to do all things spiritual. Living this life is hard enough with all its disappointment's, trials and tribulations. When someone dies it effects us deeply, and we think about the supernatural, and where they will be going for a few days, or maybe even a few hours and then get on with our lives, yet the Bible tells us we are all going to die one day and the choice of where you will be going in the afterlife is yours, so there is a very real supernatural place that requires our attention.
Spiritual growth includes:
1. Communicating with God, through connection and conversation, through Jesus Christ
2. Reading daily and Increasing your knowledge of God's Word
3. Decreasing in your sin
4. Increasing in your practice of Christ-like qualities
5. Increasing in your faith and trust in God
6. Receiving and Praying in the spirit at all times, every day [speaking in tongues]
7. Praying and declaring the Word of God daily
8. Walking in the spirit, discerning, and being spiritually minded [not always concerned about worldly desires]
9. Producing fruit and helping others
10. Walking, seeing, hearing Jesus
It is the Holy Spirit's job to connect us with Jesus, it is Jesus's job to save you and connect you with Father, it is our job, to connect, engage and take action and grow in all things supernatural.
What does spiritual growth look like? Galatians 5 has the answer:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law."
If you are becoming more loving, more joyful, more kind, more self-controlled, etc., then you will see the changes in you, and through you, and that spiritual growth is genuinely occurring in your life.
