Visions are images, or scenes, we see through our spiritual eyes and sometimes our natural eyes, open or closed. It is a peering through the veils between the supernatural and the natural. Crossing the boundaries of what seems impossible and making them possible. It can look like a dream, be in a dream, or when you fall under the Holy Spirit in a trance, or simply watch as you go along in your day, being in both the natural world whilst watching the supernatural world.
Enoch, the seventh Patriarch from the Bible, in the book of Genesis, saw many visions and dreams, and encountered them also by entering into the visions and flying up to heaven with the help of Angels. Privileged to the secrets of God, his books were rejected by the Jews because it contained prophecies pertaining to Jesus Christ and His coming. In his book he says,
I lay on my bad sleeping. And, while I slept, a great distress entered my heart, and I was weeping with my eyes in a dream. And I could not figure out what this distress might be, |nor| what might be
happening to me. Then two huge men appeared to me, the like of which I had never seen on earth.
Their faces were like the shining sun;
their eyes were like burning lamps;
from their mouths fire was coming forth;
their clothing was various singing;
their wings were more glistening than gold;
their hands were whiter than snow.
And they stood at the head of my bed and called me by my name. Then I awake from my sleep, and saw those men, standing in front of me, in actuality. Then I bowed down to them; and I was terrified; and the appearance of my face was changed because of fear. Then those men said to me, “Be brave, Enoch! In truth, do not fear! "
There are many things we can understand by reading this text and understanding visions better:
He felt the supernatural immediately
He felt a part of the supernatural and interacted with it
He saw clearly what and who was in the vision - Angels/Men
Those in the vision knew who he was and interacted with him - connection
They became real out of the supernatural and into the supernatural - manifestation
Listen to my words; When there is a prophet among you, I the Lord, reveal myself to them in visions, I speak to them in dreams. Numbers 12:6
Visions are there so we can interact with God and bring His purpose for the Earth into Earth. In Amos 3:7, we are told God revealed powerful visions to the Prophets, who were Seers, to provide supernatural navigation, direction, and guidance to those who inquired of God. God speaks in many ways through prophetic visions, pictures and visual impressions of the mind, and we see in the Bible in the Old Testament that prophets received visions and pictures of God and seeing into the heavenly realms. But it was not only the Prophets from ancient times, many people in the New Testament such as, of course Jesus, and Paul who had an out of body experience.
I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord. I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise and heard inexpressible things, things that no one is permitted to tell. 2 Corinthians 12:3
Some types of Visions
PICTORIAL — an image, or a snapshot, of another place or item (Acts 10:3)
PANORAMIC — moving pictures, like a short movie that could last seconds or longer, sometimes include words, heard or visual (Acts 16:9)
DREAMS — scenes or appearances whilst you sleep (Genesis 28:12)
APPEARANCES — when Angels turn up, or someone, or something significant comes to view, a symbol, an item, a place (Luke 1:11-20)
OPEN VISIONS OR DIVINE SIGHT — when seeing/watching some other scene take place (Acts 10:3-4)
TRANCE — awareness of your natural surroundings, but you can't move because you are caught in the vision (Acts 10:9-17)
OUT OF BODY — When your spirit leaves your body and travels to heavenly places (2 Cor. 12:3)
TRANSLATION — Physical transportation from place to another quickly and supernaturally (Acts 8)
The Spirit of the Lord carried Phillip away, and the eunuch saw him no more and went on his way rejoicing Acts 8:26-40
Everyone has access to God through the Holy Spirit to see visions and have supernatural dreams and trances, by accepting and receiving the gift of the Holy Spirit. All we need to do is ask! Lets activate that now!
And I will, pour out my spirit upon ALL flesh and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions. Joel 2:28
PRAYER:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I want to see into the spiritual realm and understand what you are trying to show me. Jesus said anything we ask in His name you will give it and Paul said if I eagerly desire these gifts you will respond. Open my eyes through the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and through the blood of Jesus Christ so that I may see the supernatural. Pull down the spiritual scales and dark veils that cover my eyes. Open them with your glory light and spiritual fire in Jesus name.
